Taming The Brutal Kimodo Dragon . . . Sort Of

Serious adventures, I mean the utterly real, still exist. You may have to appear really challenging for them, but they are nevertheless out there. The Telegraph lately recounted a trip into the lair of the fire-breathing, man-consuming lizard, the Kimodo Dragon.

At initial glance, I imagined this was one particular of those real kind of adventures. Not so. There wasn’t any fire breathing, nor any human prey. There genuinely wasn’t any true adventure outside of battling a gin and tonic hangover. Even though, I have to admit, being face-to-encounter with the world’s largest lizard would sure make me feel like Captain Jack Sparrow taming newfound wilds.

Dragon territory, on the Indonesian islands of Rinca and Komodo, are a part of a ten day sailing itinerary the posting describes, from Bali as a result of Komodo Nationwide Park. Even though the spot is known as a scorching spot for diving with sharks and manta rays, the hikes via a dragon-infested rainforest, for some weird explanation, appeals to me. Just envision . . . ten-foot-lengthy, cannibalistic lizards live in trees, below porches, and in the sea. Yeah, the four,000 of these living in the wild — Could. Be. Anywhere.

The epic encounter went like this: “For a minute the dragons seemed docile. But then a thing disturbed the group. In a flash they rose up on haunches encased in folds of scales and darted forward at pace, their thick bodies switching from side to side in a method that was alarming in anything ten feet lengthy. Deep within, some innate urge screamed ‘Run.'”

And run they did. Our dragon slayer ran appropriate back to the comforts of the air conditioning, sun loungers, and nicely mixed G-n-T’s  of the tour guide’s sailboat. It appears like taming the menacing Komodo Dragon will have to wait until eventually the subsequent “adventure” (go through: luxury sail trip as a result of Indonesia).
